How we write and check our articles
You may be making big decisions for your mom or dad based on what you read here. So you should know who writes it, how it's made and where the facts come from.

Who writes the articles
The articles on this site are written by the Parent Move Plan editorial team. We don't sign them with individual names. The company that publishes the site and is responsible for its content is listed in our legal notice.
How we use AI writing tools
We use AI writing tools to help research questions, sort sources and write first drafts. We say so openly because we think you have a right to know. A draft is not an article yet. Before anything goes live, a person on our team reads it in full, checks every number and rule against the source it cites, and cuts what isn't useful to a family in the middle of a move.
AI tools can get facts wrong with great confidence. That's the reason every figure on this site links to where it comes from, so you don't have to take our word for it.
Where the facts come from
We rely on primary sources wherever we can:
- Federal agencies, such as Medicare.gov, CMS, Medicaid.gov, the National Institute on Aging, the CDC, the IRS, the VA and the Eldercare Locator run by the Administration for Community Living
- State laws and state licensing agencies, because assisted living rules are set by each state
- National nonprofits and professional groups, such as the Family Caregiver Alliance, AARP, the Alzheimer's Association, the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center and the American Bar Association
- Published cost surveys, such as the CareScout (formerly Genworth) Cost of Care Survey, always with the year of the figure
Each article lists its sources at the end. If a number is an estimate, or our own calculation from the plan, we say so next to it.
What our articles are and aren't
Our articles help you organize a move: what to ask, what to find, what to schedule and what to write down. They are general information. They are not legal, medical or financial advice. Rules differ by state and by community, and where a decision belongs to an elder law attorney, a doctor, a benefits counselor or the community's nurse, the article tells you so.
Who pays for this site
The families who buy the plan pay for the site. We take no money from senior living communities, placement agencies or advertisers, and our articles contain no affiliate links. Most articles have one box that points to our free quiz and the plan. That box is our only ad.
Dates and updates
Each article shows the date it was published on this site. When we change facts in an article, for example because a rule or a cost figure changes, we update it and show the new date.
Plain language
We write for someone reading on a phone late at night after a long day. We aim for short sentences and everyday words. We use the same words for the same things everywhere, and terms like "residency agreement" or "care assessment" are explained in assisted living terms, explained.
